‘The Truth’ might not have called bank, but Otto Porter Jr. answered, depositing change into the Washington Wizards account. Without the flick of Wall’s wrist in the playoffs this series, the Washington Wizards needed to withdraw from their savings. And Porter delivered, calling upon fundamentals stashed in a bank of his own.
Small forward Porter Jr. has brewed a potent potion for the Wizards without the ball sorcery of guard John Wall in their roster, his infectious play a helpful remedy for the team. During the regular season, Porter averaged 6 points, .9 assists, and 3 rebounds—a role player playing his role in the already deep roster. But during the postseason, in particular the series against the Atlanta Hawks, Porter has emerged—providing the medicine to ailing line up as John Wall’s ‘right hand’.
The series, which began on May 3, has been guided by the improved play of the small forward—a strong sign for the Wizards going forward in the series. The first match up, Porter contributed 10 points, 11 rebounds, and an assist. He gave his team more than the usual; the significant increase in his numbers proved pivotal to the Wizards game play while starting forward, Nene, was lax in production. He provided a cushion for both Wall and Beal, forcing the defense to sit at home upon penetration.
Following Wall’s injury in game 2, Porter attempted to bandage the wound in the lineup; a firm application of pressure on the defensive end still led to loss. Porter, with 15 points, 8 rebounds, 3 steals, and 5 assists proved valuable yet again. His defensive presence forced turnovers, his energy pestering the Hawks. Porter went 2-3 from beyond the arc, forcing the defense to stretch their play at the opposite end of the floor.
In game 3, Porter effectively filled the void in the roster, voiding any criticism. His high energy and production off the bench made injured teammate, Wall, get off the bench, exalting in celebration. Porter spaced the floor, creating opportunities for teammates to create off the dribble. Porter moved effectively without the ball; his back door cuts cut into the heart of the Hawks defense, clipping their wings. With 17 points, 9 rebounds, and a block, Porter blocked any questions about the strength of the draftee’s potential. Porter, contributing so many positives to the Wizards roster, has a future nothing short of positive—bank on that.
Warning: the following tweet has been scripted by a professional and ruled highly unprofessional; do not attempt this tweet at home, Jackass.
On April 28, Houston Rockets social media manager Chad Shanks tweet sailed through the links in the world wide web’s pen–gate open, the maverick bucked ferociously, slinging mud in every direction before being corralled by the organization. Shh, Old McDonald, just close your eyes, they used the ultimate silencer, his ‘death’ in the field will be over soon, spilling little bad blood.
The tweet, “ Shhhhh. Just close eyes. It will all be over soon,” sent following the Rockets series-clinching victory against the Dallas Mavericks, sent public outrage skyrocketing–soaring helplessly toward infinity hits and beyond.
The organization ‘can’t believe it was so easy to spread like butter.’ The tweet, though adding emotion by effectively utilizing emoticons and humor, was ruled a ‘flagrant’ use of thumbs. An obvious attempt at a joke that might even find itself listed on the mafia’s ‘hits’, accomplished its main goal to its audience, to promote and gain awareness about its brand in an entertaining manner. The post ruffled some feathers within the ‘barn’, hatching an uproar amongst animals of the human species as the retweets churned. The ‘branding’ of cattle ready for butchery was considered a ‘foul’ statement, which resulted in the immediate firing of the team’s manager. The team’s finger was on the trigger, deleting the aforementioned tweet as well.
“Sometimes you can go too far,” Shanks tweeted. “I will no longer run @HoustonRockets but am grateful to the organization that let me develop an online voice.”
But their opponents fired back, responding to the tweet.
“@HoustonRockets Not very classy but we still wish you guys the best of luck in the next round.”
Everyone, hide your thoughts and watch your thumbs . The birds tweeting in Old McDonald’s barn might even contain sensitive material.
Men, turn off Drake, drain that shot, and take another shot; the clock is ticking, but second chances are real. On April 23, the ‘oracle’, Stephen Curry, delivered the message in front of a boisterous crowd at the Oracle in Oakland, CA.
The Golden State Warriors who weren’t mining gold beyond the arc, surmounted a twenty-point deficit as the camera panned to the third quarter. With buckets and a solid current, the Splash Brothers uncovered a piece of NBA history: the third-largest third quarter comeback.
“You know how big of a deal it is to come back from a deficit like that in the playoffs on the road, in a game we knew was very important for us to really take control of this series,” Curry said. “So I think we should celebrate the accomplishment.”
As the fourth quarter progressed, the Splash Brothers ended a drought, putting a damper in the New Orleans Pelicans game plan; the Pelicans slipped as they slid through holes in the defense to drown open looks. The offense, which seemed to be lost at sea, was guided a shore, scoring 39 points, as opposed 25, 27 and 17 of their respective previous quarters. Barnes and Green were life preservers, keeping the ball alive off failed shot attempts and protecting comeback chances with put backs. Their defense sunk the Pelicans lead that was anchored on the strong play of Ryan Anderson and Anthony Davis (26 and 29 points respectively).
With the final ten ticks of the game clock, the Warriors behind three points 108-105, Curry forced a three off the dribble in the face of defeat and Quincy Pondexter, which pecked the rim and jumped into the open arms of Marreese Speights. Exploring the court with a targeted ‘x’, he found and delivered the ball to Curry in the corner, who plunged the dagger into his enemies, the onlookers witnessing the tragedy just steps off of Coliseum Way, uniting his Warriors for an extended battle.
Overtime belonged to the Warriors—the foundational principles of momentum accelerated by the game play, outscoring the Pelicans 15-11. Curry finished with 40 points, 5 rebounds, and 9 assists. His less-hydrated brother contributing 28 points, 6 rebounds and 2 blocks.
Game 4 of the series reconvenes tonight, April 25, at 8 p.m. The Warriors, with a 3-0 lead, can spear their opponent and move on in search of a Championship trophy with a combat win. Men, scroll through your contacts and contact your trophy—the prophecy of Curry compels you.
